About

Live The Active Life is about improving our lives through increased physical and mental activity, better health and fitness, and healthy eating. Our bodies and our minds are designed to be used on a daily basis. Physical and mental activity are necessary if we expect to live a healthy and long life. Without activity decay takes control of our bodies, making every day a little harder and ultimately shortening our lives needlessly.

The goal of Live The Active Life is to provide the information, tools, resources, and motivation needed to make activity an integral, and enjoyable, part of our daily lives. I will draw on my own experiences and thoughts, along with those of others, in areas such as:

  • Health and Fitness
  • Nutrition and Diet
  • Sports and Training
  • Tools and Resources

Who Am I?

My name is Mark. I’m a 43 year old married guy who is learning very quickly that we don’t stay eighteen forever. I have always been fairly active and even ran competitively in high school and college. Since then I have managed to stay active most of the time through a combination of running, and more recently bicycling. I am committed to living an active life and I want to continue to remain active as long as possible. As I get older I realize I need to work harder at staying active. Life is a little more complicated now and time is at a premium. I have gained a lot of personal experience over the years, both good and bad, when it comes to staying active and I hope to share that experience here.

Why Am I Doing This?

People are living longer than ever. That doesn’t mean that they are living higher quality longer lives, just longer lives. The sedentary lifestyles that many people have adopted contribute to a lower overall quality of life. The number of people, especially children, who are overweight is increasing rapidly. Chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, and heart disease are also becoming more common. Why is this happening when we have such great health care? I believe that an overall lack of activity, combined with bad diet, is a major cause. The fact is that most people could have a significantly better quality of life if only they would increase their level of activity and eat a little better. Research into aging and health is confirming this. I believe that in many cases all people need is some easy to understand information and they can be motivated to make the changes they need to make in order to improve their lives dramatically. I have a lot of experience in fitness and conditioning, staying active, and dealing with the ups and downs that come with an active lifestyle and I want to share my knowledge and experiences.

My hope is that through this site people will find the ideas, suggestions, tools, and motivation they need to positively impact their quality of life. If you are looking to make a change in your life, or have already started, let us know about it. Share your experiences with others and use this site as a tool to help you improve your life.
