2008 started off not so well for me. I had finished 2007 fairly strong and then it happened. The tendinitis in my ankle that had bothered me off and on flared up right after the 1st of the year. A black and blue, swollen left ankle greeted me after a short indoor workout. It kind of freaked me out. So, I took nearly 4 weeks off and made sure to take care of my ankle, icing it daily and not putting any strain on it.

Finally, last week, I couldn’t go any longer without activity. My ankle felt pretty good. I got back on the bike and started riding again. My ankle seemed OK but I still made an appointment to see the Dr. to make sure there is nothing really wrong with it. I have that appointment tomorrow.

What I noticed when I got back on the bike was how much conditioning I had lost in just a few weeks of inactivity. It is really amazing, actually. It’s not like I lost all my conditioning but I could definitely feel it. I guess it is just another reminder how much our bodies really thrive on activity. Use it or lose it definitely applies. It is good to be moving again, feeling my body working at my command. It is really a great feeling and I miss it almost immediately if I stop working out.

Now if I can stay healthy. Hopefully the Dr. doesn’t have bad news tomorrow.
