Weekly Activity Update #1
This is my first post under the category of “weekly activity update” where I will do a quick review of my week from an active lifestyle perspective. I will summarize my aerobic and weight training, healthy eating and also talk about any challenges or opportunities I came across. My hope is this will give others some perspective of the ups, and downs, that happen within the context of pursuing a life based on activity and healthy eating. So, without further ado, here is the first weekly summary:
This week overall was pretty good. I was able to ride a bit more (nearly 5 hours total) on the bike and was able to do a couple of good workouts, one inside and one outside. On Wednesday I did a good solid hour of conditioning at my “aerobic threshold” heart rate. These types of workouts are great fitness builders and because of the rolling terrain and traffic in my area doing the workout indoors is usually the best way. I also did a good hour long ride on Saturday that had a lot of variety and a group ride today of nearly 40 miles.
My ankle tendinitis is going to be an issue for a while. I did see the massage therapist on Thursday and she put the hurt on me by concentrating on breaking up some of the scar tissue I have in my ankle. It worked pretty well and my ankle feels better than last week. I have been doing my stretching every day as well.
On the healthy eating front my wife and I have been concentrating on eating better and I think we are doing pretty good. I found a couple of good recipes to fix which turned out pretty good. I have tried to buy more “whole” (minimally processed) foods and we are getting better at it.
The only downer this week was related to my new weight training regimin. I started on Monday and slightly strained my right shoulder doing some shoulder presses. As a result I will not do any upper body exercises until at least midweek. It feels better today but I don’t want to push my luck.
That’s it for this week. Here’s hoping everyone has a good, activity filled week.
