Here is the weekly activity update for the week ending Sunday, March 16th.

This week was a challenge when it comes to getting the amount of activity I am used to. We had to go out of town Thursday through Sunday so I wasn’t able to ride my bike on the weekend, which is when I usually get my longest rides in. Also, having to eat in restaurants and airports for almost four days was a challenge. Here are the details.

Bike Riding and Other Aerobic Activity

The week started off fine enough with the beginning of daylight savings time, meaning I can ride outside after work during the week. I went out on Tuesday and got a good 1 hour ride in.  I started my ride on Wednesday but had to stop after 15 minutes when my shift cable broke making it impossible to pedal. I had to call my wife and have her pick me up. Luckily I wasn’t too far from home. I took the bike to the shop on Thursday to have that cable, and all the others, repaired/replaced.  I picked the bike up from the shop today, and it is almost brand new after a good tune up and cleaning!

Since I couldn’t ride while out of town, I used the (very small) exercise room at the hotel we were staying at.  It had a stationary bike and two treadmills, that’s it.  I did some power walking/jogging on the treadmill on Friday and Sunday mornings.  Not much, but better than nothing I guess.  Total time for the week was about 2.5 hours.

Weight Taining

I did almost nothing as far as weight training goes.  I did lift on Monday but nothing after that.  The hotel we were staying at did not have any weights.  I will get back on track this week.  I am a little concerned as my right shoulder is still a little tender, even after no real strain on it.  I’ll skip the upper body again this week and hopefully it will be OK.  If not I guess I’ll have to see the Dr. about it.

Healthy Eating

We did good with our eating Monday through Wednesday.  The rest of the week was a bit of a challenge as we were at a family event with all of the food that goes along with those things.  Whenever we could, we chose salads or lighter meats for lunch and dinner.  Breakfast was my downfall as there were eggs everyday along with waffles and small sausages (I ate a few).  We did well overall but probably ate more than we usually do.  I gained 1.5 pounds but that should come off after a few days of work.

This week I can get back on track and am really looking forward to my “new” bike.

Keep active everyone, and I’ll update next week.
